Madison – the case for the 608

  • Nestled between lakes Mendota and Monona, Madison is one of only two major U.S. cities built on an isthmus.
  • A city ordinance prevents any new building from being taller than the Capitol dome – which makes our Capitol the tallest building in Madison.
  • Madison plays host to the nation’s largest producers-only farmers’ market.
  • Madison has more bikes than cars, and they are used on our more than 120 miles of scenic biking and hiking trails.
  • Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright spent his childhood years in nearby Spring Green and returned to live in the area when he was at the height of his international fame.
